Seems someone is capitalizing on the lack of IT knowledge and experience in Biomeds.
GE has begun to offer IT training classes designed specially for Biomeds, or as GE calls it “This instructor-led class is specifically designed for technical professionals responsible for the installation and support of medical devices and the networks interconnecting them.”
GE offers three packages of its Essentials of Healthcare IT class, which is designed for “students with no previous IT training to gain confidence in this new and exciting arena.”
The classes do come at a price, and a hefty one at that.
- 5 day class, includes class materials (books and handouts?) $3,500.00
- 5 day class, includes class materials and lodging $4,425.00
- 5 day class, includes class materials, lodging and airfare $5,525.00

In addition to the Essentials Class, GE also offers class in CISCO, Networks+, Securing The Healthcare IT Environment, Wireless In The Healthcare IT Environment, and one self-paced course: Networking Basics.
The prices for these courses seem a bit expensive to me… what do you think?

Yes, but they will not allow faculty members of biomedical equipment technology programs to attend. We checked into it. They wouldn’t even take our money. They said it was “proprietary” information.
