Biomeds working at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan walked into work last Friday Morning to find that they longer had jobs.
Gensys has outsourced their in-house Biomed Department to Trimedx, a national provider of Clinical Engineering Services. The decision to go third party was made in ”an effort to insure long-term productivity and enhanced service while taking advantage of improved operating efficiencies” said hospital officials.
Although the Biomeds are not allowed back to work, the layoffs dont go into effect until June 24th, 2008. The laid-off Biomeds will continue to receive pay and benefits until that time, after which, they will be eligible for standard severance pay per their contracts.
Union officials plan to fight the layoffs, and have consulted legal counsel to determine if the Biomed’s rights were violated.
